Former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren dead at age 64 April 8, 2010

Malcolm McLaren, impresario, pop culture pioneer, self-promoter and former manager of the Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls passed away today of mesothelioma in New York City at the age of 64.

In 1975, McLaren discovered John Lydon after spotting him wearing torn clothes, green hair and the words “I hate” scribbled on the front of his Pink Floyd t-shirt.  Lydon’s anti-establishment attitude impressed McLaren who changed Lydon’s  name to Johnny Rotten and thus the Sex Pistols were born.

John Lydon’s newly reunited Public Image Ltd. (PiL) are about to embark on their first tour in over 17 years.  PiL will perform at San Franciso’s Regency Ballroom on 4/17/2010.

Song of the Day – Monday 3/29/2010 Titus Andronicus March 29, 2010

New Jersey indie rockers, Titus Andronicus combine folk, punk, shoegaze and lo-fi, and have recently been named one of the Best New Bands of 2010 by Rolling Stone.  The band played last night at Slim’s supported by Let’s Wrestle…

Definitely not your every day thrashers, the band’s name is based on one of Shakespeare’s plays and their second album, The Monitor was released on 3/9/2010 and is a concept album about the Civil War.  In fact, many of  their songs reference classic literature…it’s like Oprah’s Book Club meets the mosh pit.
