Song of the Day – Thursday 4/8/2010 Dr. Dog April 8, 2010

Philly psych rockers, Dr. Dog have drawn comparisons to several 60’s bands that all start with the letter “B” such as the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Band.  Hmmm…not a Bad Bunch (sorry, couldn’t resist the alliteration).  Now that their sixth studio album, Shame, Shame was released yesterday, Dr. Dog proves that they aren’t imitators of past greats, but have truly created their own unique sound.

You can catch Dr. Dog when they play two nights at the Great American Music Hall on 4/24/2010 and 4/25/2010.

Song of the Day – Friday 3/26/2010 The Besnard Lakes March 26, 2010

Don’t call The Besnard Lakes the new John and Yoko.  Husband and wife team Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas make up The Besnard Lakes, a four-piece indie rock band hailing from Montreal, Canada.  Their sound has been described as expansive and generational, ranging from psychedelic ’60s rock, to cosmic ’70s pop, to post rock and shoegaze.

The band’s third album, The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night was released on 3/9/20210 which Jace Lasek describes as, “psychedelic rock – each song is its own little world, an atmosphere.  I’ve always been enamored with these songs that take forever to get going, long songs that build, with a story and a long build to a climax…very much like that. Each song is a story and we really want people to listen to the record in its entirety.”

Listen to MGMT’s New Album “Congratulations” March 22, 2010

MGMT’s sophomore album, Congratulations, is scheduled for release on 4/13/2010, however, you can hear the album in its entirety on the band’s official website.  Andrew and Ben said they decided to stream their “no singles” album because, “the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us.  We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn’t make sense to anyone but us.”
