San Francisco’s noise-pop trio Weekend is singer and bassist Shaun Durkan, guitarist Kevin Johnson and drummer Abe Pedroza.

The band’s debut album, Sports was released on 11/9/2010 on Slumberland Records who describe the album as “one of the most assured debuts in recent memory, full of rumbling rhythms, layers of LOUD guitars and most of all great songs that pay special attention to texture and atmosphere, and leaven even the most riotous moments with unexpected shards of melody.”

LA’s indie rock duo, No Age consists of Randy Randall (guitar) and Dean Spunt (vocals, drums). The band has so far released three albums, 2007’s Weirdo Rippers (a compilation of early material) 2008’s Nouns and 2010’s Everything In Between.

The band’s third full-length album, Everything in Between dropped on 9/28/2010.

Song of the Day – Friday 10/22/2010 The Big Pink October 22, 2010

The Big Pink are an electro rock duo that formed in 2007 in London, England. The group consists of Robbie Furze (vocals, guitar) and Milo Cordell (keyboards, synths, vocals).  Their debut album, A Brief History of Love was released last year.  The band’s label, 4AD describes the album as “eleven stunning tracks that chart the trials of the heart, set within a sound world that combines melody and beautiful noise in equal measure.”

Brooklyn’s Frankie Rose is a bit of a nomad.  She’s been involved with several groups including Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts,  Dum Dum Girls.  Now she’s moving away from the drum kit and is fronting (on lead vocals and guitar) her new project, Frankie Rose and the Outs.  Look for their self-titled debut LP to drop on 9/21/2010, and tour dates (even though Frankie is not fond of touring) are sure to follow…

Song of the Day – Wednesday 7/14/10 Neon Indian July 14, 2010

Alan Palomo is Neon Indian, born in Mexico and raised in Texas, whose lo-fi sound created quite a buzz last year when he released his debut LP, Psychic Chasms

Previously associated with his work with Ghosthustler and VEGA, Palomo describes Neon Indian’s sound as,  “Childhood re-contextualized through a psychedelic, lo-fi filter.  The idea of memory before you were old enough to have memories.”

Neon Indian will be sending smoke signals on 9/29/10 from The Fillmore in San Francisco when he is joined onstage with his live band which includes: Leanne Macomber, Ronald Gierhart, and Jason Faries.
