Song of the Day – Tuesday 12/28/2010 White Denim December 28, 2010

Sorry MizMuzers…I’ve been trying to write today’s and yesterday’s posts via my iPhone as Big Brother has blocked access to all social networking, blogs, merchant sites, and anything fun at my day job.  Please forgive any missing links, mislabeled pictures, incorrect info—basically, the post below may be total bollocks…

White Denim is a four-piece hailing from Austin, Texas.  Their music draws influence from dub, psychedelic rock, blues, punk rock, progressive rock, soul, jazz, experimental rock with home-based recording, jamming approach, intense looping work and unusual song structures…

You can download the band’s latest LP, Last Day of Summer on their official website for FREE here!

The Fresh & Onlys must be competing with Thee Oh Sees as the hardest working band in San Francisco as they have just released their latest LP, Play it Strange on 10/12/2010, which is their *third* full-length album to be released in just two years.

Check out The Fresh & Onlys when they open up for Clinic on 11/19/2010 at The Independent in San Francisco…

Song of the Day – Monday 9/20/2010 Agent Ribbons September 20, 2010

Originally based in Sacramento, Agent Ribbons began four years ago as a two-piece with Natalie Gordon (the redhead) on vocals and guitar, and Lauren Hess (the brunette) on drums and vocals.  Last year they added a third member Naomi Cherie (the blonde) on violin and cello and the band moved to Austin, Texas.  Agent Ribbons describes their sound as “garage pop with a cabaret twist” and happen to be Camera Obscura‘s favorite American band at the moment.

Their upcoming sophomore album, Chateau Crone is scheduled for release on 10/12/2010 on Antenna Farm Records.  Check back with MizMuze for Bay Area dates in support of the album…

Agent Ribbons – Dada Girlfriend

Song of the Day – Tuesday 9/7/2010 Bethany Cosentino, Kid Cudi, and Rostam Batmanglij September 7, 2010

It’s the day after Labor Day and you know what that means…it’s the symbolic end of Summer.  So put away your white pants and let’s listen to one last song to commemorate our favorite season…

Creating an exclusive track for Converse, Bethany Cosentino from Best Coast, Kid Cudi, and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend sing an ode to waiting all year long for Summer.  So now that Summer’s over, you’re just now realizing how good you had it, how great Summer made you feel, and how much you took it for granted.  Now, of course, you want Summer back.  But don’t despair, you’ll get back together in 9 months, but until then, download “All Summer” here.

Song of the Day – Wednesday 9/1/2010 The Bitters September 1, 2010

The Bitters are Ben Cook (Young Governor/Fucked Up) and Aerin Fogel.  CBC Radio gives the band’s back story: Formed in the east end of Toronto, The Bitters write and record their self-proclaimed Cave Pop from their studio, an artistic cooperative shared with Toronto’s most creative musicians.  Their debut 12″ EP, Wooden Glove, was released last spring on Captured Tracks and sold out shortly after, having been instantly well-received among tough critics and keen listeners alike.  The band is a result of Cook and Fogel’s prolific efforts and their ability to construct songs ranging from 50’s melodies atop dark post-punk instrumentals, to 90’s throwback alternative and grunge, which stems from their unique dynamic as friends and partners.

Their debut album, East General was released on 4/13/2010…

The Bitters – Travelin’ Girl

Song of the Day – Wednesday 8/11/2010 Mona August 11, 2010

Proclaiming to one day be “bigger than Bono” these four boys from Nashville, Tennessee, BKA Mona, have set some pretty lofty goals for themselves.  Well, they have the look and the attitude, and they have been compared to U2, Kings of Leon, Rocket from the Crypt, and a little Clash… but really, with a name like Mona can their dreams really become reality?

See for yourself…they will release their debut single, “Listen to Your Love” on 9/13/2010 by ZION NOIZ.  You can pre-order here.

LA indie rockers via San Diego, The Soft Pack (formerly The Muslims) released their self-titled debut LP back in February.

After listening to this cool little garage rock ditty, MizMuze is bummed that she missed the band when they opened up for Phoenix back in January.  Oh well, you can see them next month when they’ll be performing at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco on 8/15/2010…
