Inspiring the masses, one post at a time.

Song of the Day – Tuesday 7/20/2010 Department of Eagles July 20, 2010

Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear formed indie rock band, Department of Eagles back in 2000 with his NYU roommate, Fred Nicolaus.  Their latest album, Archives 2003-2006 dropped today and is a collection of unreleased material.  MizMuze can’t stop spinnin’ this one…

Song of the Day – Thursday 6/17/2010 Yo La Tengo June 17, 2010

Hoboken, New Jersey’s indie rock legends, Yo La Tengo (Spanish for “I’ve Got It” which is a baseball reference) have been making music for over a quarter-century—that’s like a million light years in the indie rock world (if time was measured in distance).  The band released, Popular Songs, their 12th studio album, last year.

Yo La Tengo will be headlining this years Left Coast Live Festival (see next post to find out all the festival details) in San Jose on 6/26/2010…

Song of the Day – Wednesday 6/9/2010 Dirty Projectors June 9, 2010

Brooklyn’s experimental rock band, Dirty Projectors recently contributed to the “Levi’s Pioneer Sessions: 2010 Revival Recordings” where musicians from pop, rock, soul, and rap re-craft the classic songs that inspired their sound.  You can download all of the songs for free by artists including Nas, The Swell Season, She & Him, with more bands on the way, here:

The Dirty Projectors chose a lesser known Bob Dylan classic, “I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine” from his John Wesley Harding album.  Perhaps the band will perform this live when they hit the Fillmore on 9/25 and 9/26…

Song of the Day – Wednesday 5/5/2010 Bear in Heaven May 5, 2010

¡Hola! Happy Cinco de Mayo!

So what does Brooklyn-based indie-rockers, Bear in Heaven have to do with Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla?  Nothing.  But their second album, Beast Rest Fourth Mouth is a play on the 4 main navigational directions, East West North South…so let’s celebrate the 5th of May with the 4 directions (OK, it’s a stretch, but hopefully you’ve had too many cervezas to care).

Bear in Heaven will leave New York and head Rest performing at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on 7/26/2010 with Twin Sister (tomorrow’s SOTD).

Bear in Heaven – Lovesick Teenagers

Song of the Day – Tuesday 2/23/2010 Yeasayer February 23, 2010
