So what’s a girl to do now that LCD Soundsystem have broken up?!  Well, a girl like MizMuze will wipe her tears, dust herself off, and move on…move on to Holy Ghost! that is.  The band’s self-titled debut album dropped 4/5/2011 on DFA Records (James Murphy’s label).

The DJ duo from Brooklyn will be spooking the Bay Area with a headling show on 4/15 at the Blank Club in San Jose with Geographer, and will perform opening act duties for Cut Copy on 4/16 and 4/17 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.

Song of the Day – Wednesday 02.02.2011 Braids February 2, 2011

Braids are a Canadian four-piece that mix experimental pop with neo-psychedelia and have been described by the New York Times as a band that “makes dreamy songs that fly with real velocity, a combination made possible by the band’s moving in so many directions at once.”

The band’s debut album, Native Speaker was released on 1.18.2011…see them at the Rickshaw Stop on 5.4.2011 when they open up for Baths…

Florida’s Million Young aka, Mike Diaz is surfing the wave of Chaz Bundwick and Ernest Green—you know them better as Toro y Moi and Washed Out, so of course it’s a chillwave.

Perhaps Diaz’s wave is a couple of years behind the rest of the chillwavers, but he’s good at what he does, plus, he’s got what the other’s don’t—he’s a musical soothsayer…

Back in 2009 Diaz was talking about what bands he was currently listening to and made the prediction about Beach House, “2010 hasn’t even started yet, but judging from the bits I’ve heard of Teen Dream, I can tell these guys already have a serious album of the year contender by anyone’s standards.”  If the music thing doesn’t work out (MizMuze predicts it will) perhaps he can make it as a fortune-teller.

Million Young’s EP, Be So True  was released on 1/26/10.

Song of the Day – Tuesday 12/21/2010 Psychic Powers December 21, 2010

Psychic Powers are Nik Brinkman (Over the Atlantic) and Alejandro Cohen (Lanquis) who met in LA in 2007 and created their songs through internet jam sessions as Nik was home in New Zealand.  In early 2010 they met again and completed their debut album, Infinity which is scheduled to be released this month.

Drawing on influences from labels such as 4AD, Flying Nun, Sarah and Creation Records, the duo blends electronic pop music reminiscent of the 90′s, but with a totally modern twist…

So Daft Punk‘s OFFICIAL soundtrack for Tron: Legacy finally dropped last week after much secrecy and phony tracks.  Who better to score the music to the 28-year-old sequel about living inside a computer game, than Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, the techno-savvy duo who make a living as Robot DJs?!

The music can only be described as Neo-Prog-Unicorn Rock, which is reason enough to drop a few quarters off at Flynn’s Arcade this Friday when Tron: Legacy opens up!

Check out the vid for “Derezzed” and see if the dynamic duo finally unmask themselves after their cyber-dual and reveal their true identity (if you’re unable to view the vid below, click on the “Watch on YouTube” link)…

Song of the Day – Monday 11/29/2010 OMD November 29, 2010

Yawwwn…stretch.  What’s going on?!  Am I still in a turkey-coma or am I having my favorite John Hughes dream?   You know what dream I’m talking about: It’s 1986, and I’m driving around in my pink Karmann Ghia, hanging out with Duckie and listening to The Smiths, New Order, and OMD!  I love that dream.

Wake up!  OMG, it’s 2010 and OMD has released a new record!!!

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark released their 11th studio album, History of Modern on 9/28/2010 which is their first album since 1996, and the first album featuring the classic 4-piece line-up since 1986’s The Pacific Age

So go on, download the new album, transfer it to cassette, and let’s drive on over to TRAX and kick Steff’s preppy little ass!

MizMuze is so busy saving the world today, that the SOTD post is super-short but super-sweet, and is sure to get you dancin’ whether you’re cooking, cleaning, stuck in holiday traffic, or workin’ for the man!

Les Sins is the dance side-project of Toro y Moi aka Chaz Bundick.  His 12″ “Lina” b/w “Youth Gone” was released on 11/9/2010 on Carpark Records and was recorded in the spring of 2009 in Chaz’s home studio in Columbia, South Carolina.
