Sleep ∞ Over is Christa Palazzolo, Stefanie Franciotti and Sarah Brown from Austin, Texas.  Their sound has been associated with the new “witch house” subgenre…Pitchfork further describes Sleep ∞ Over as, “resembling what Beach House might sound like if they played in a graveyard.”  Yeah, they’re spooky-good.

Song of the Day – Tuesday 9/28/2010 Owen Pallett September 28, 2010

Owen Pallett, or the artist formerly known as “Final Fantasy,” is a violinist and singer from Toronto.  Pallett has contributed to all of Arcade Fire’s albums and recently opened for their shows in NYC.

Owen’s third album (the first two were released under the Final Fantasy name), Heartland, dropped on 1/12/2010.  The bizarre video for the single, “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt” was directed by M. Blash and features Canadian actress, Alison Pill.

Song of the Day – Monday 9/20/2010 Agent Ribbons September 20, 2010

Originally based in Sacramento, Agent Ribbons began four years ago as a two-piece with Natalie Gordon (the redhead) on vocals and guitar, and Lauren Hess (the brunette) on drums and vocals.  Last year they added a third member Naomi Cherie (the blonde) on violin and cello and the band moved to Austin, Texas.  Agent Ribbons describes their sound as “garage pop with a cabaret twist” and happen to be Camera Obscura‘s favorite American band at the moment.

Their upcoming sophomore album, Chateau Crone is scheduled for release on 10/12/2010 on Antenna Farm Records.  Check back with MizMuze for Bay Area dates in support of the album…

Song of the Day – Tuesday 9/14/2010 Active Child September 14, 2010

Ex-choirboy, Pat Grossi aka Active Child grew up on the East Coast and now lives in LA.  Grossi’s music has a hymnal quality and is inspired by his chorale days with the Philadelphia Boys Choir…Active Child’s first official U.S. release is the EP, Curtis Lane which was released on June 1st.

It’s doubtful that Active Child will be running around the stage like an active child, but you can chillax to his spaced-out synthpop when he opens up for School of Seven Bells on 9/30/2010 at The Independent in San Francisco…

Song of the Day – Monday 8/23/2010 Sufjan Stevens August 23, 2010

Indie folk/pop’s Sufjan Stevens (pronounced ‘SOOF-yahn”) released an eight-song, 60-minute EP [yeah, that’s what I said: eight songs, sixty (six-zero) minutes!] for digital download. All Delighted People is available today on iTunes and Amazon, but you can grab it here for $5!

Sufjan’s website describes the EP as “built around two different versions of Sufjan’s long-form epic ballad “All Delighted People,” a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon’s “Sounds of Silence.” Sounds delightful, yes! The song was originally workshopped (oh we hate making workshop a verb, but time is money!) on Sufjan’s previous tour in the fall of 2009. Other songs on the EP include the 17-minute guitar jam-for-single-mothers “Djohariah,” and the gothic piano ballad “The Owl and the Tanager,” a live-show mainstay (and Debbie Downer if you ask us; what’s it doing on a “Delighted” EP?).”

Sufjan will perform at The Paramount Theatre in Oakland on 10/26/2010…
