SF Sketchfest just announced via their website that the SF Sketchfest Tribute to Conan O’Brien that had originally been scheduled for 1/17/2010 at the Herbst Theatre has been cancelled.  The presenters of this event originally asked that ticketholders hold on to their tickets or leave your tickets at will call until a new date has been rescheduled.

This was posted on the SF Sketchfest website today:

“The SF Sketchfest Tribute to Conan O’Brien has been canceled due to circumstances beyond our control. Please know we made every possible effort to reschedule the date. We are deeply disappointed and we apologize for any inconvenience to ticketholders. Refunds are available at point of purchase.”

Each year SF Sketchfest honors an individual or group that has made an influential and unparalleled contribution to the world of comedy. This year, the seventh annual SF Sketchfest Tribute Award was to be presented to The Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien.  The tribute was to include an in-depth conversation with Conan and Andy Richter but was cancelled  due to the NBC/Tonight Show debacle going on at that time.

I emailed SF Sketchfest suggesting a special ‘Meet & Greet’ with Conan for those that had tickets to the SF Sketchfest Tribute during his upcoming 30-city “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour,” but did not receive a response back.  UPDATE:  I have heard from many of you who thought a ‘Meet & Greet’ for those with SF Sketchfest tickets was a good idea, and sadly, some were really bummed that they missed out on tickets all together, but…SF Sketchfest sent an email last night, 3/12/10 stating, “SF Sketchfest is not affiliated with Conan O’Brien’s tour in any way, so arranging a meet-and-greet is not an option for us. This cancellation was completely beyond our control.”  So, sorry everyone, but I still say it can’t hurt for us to try and contact Conan’s people with our idea!

All those that had tickets can be refunded by contacting City Box Office:

…”Comeback!”  AHHHH!!! That’s right, at age 57, Paul Reubens aka Pee-wee Herman, the eternal man-child, is bringing his live stage show to Club Nokia in Los Angeles for a limited engagement running from January 12 – February 7, 2010.  The 2010 stage revival combines characters from the original 1980 stage show, as well as Chairry, Conky the Robot, King of Cartoons, and Magic Screen from the “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” TV Series.
