Song of the Day – Monday 8/30/2010 Cee-Lo Green August 30, 2010

Goodie Mob/Gnarls Barkley singer, songwriter, rapper, producer extraordinaire, Cee-Lo Green has another hit on his hands.  His soulful “Fuck You” is a middle-finger shout-out to his ex-girl and her new beau, and while you may think it’s gonna be an angry dis, this song is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and make you feel better about your day…you’re gonna wanna play it over and over until you get sick of it or until it makes you go “Crazy”…

The single dropped on YouTube a little over a week ago and has gone mega-viral (but something tells me this is gonna need a radio edit if it’s ever gonna hit the airwaves).  The new album, The Lady Killer is scheduled for release on 12/7/2010.  You can download the single here

9/1/2010 UPDATE:  Cee-Lo just dropped the official vid today:

You can still see the placeholder vid here (both are equally good):

Cee-Lo claims his new nickname is Gigo-Lo after using P90X.  See for yourself…

North Carolina’s The Love Language’s debut self-titled album was recorded at the home of singer-songwriter Stuart McLamb who had moved back to his parents’ house after a beak up and hitting rock bottom.  The Love Language’s second album, Libraries, dropped on 7/13/2010 and was recorded with the help of producer/engineer B.J. Burton.  The digital version of the album, available at the Merge Records site, includes five bonus songs.

See The Love Language when they open up for Local Natives at The Fillmore on 9/22/2010…

Song of the Day – Wednesday 8/25/2010 Twin Shadow August 25, 2010

Brooklyn’s Twin Shadow (aka George Lewis Jr.) has released his debut album, Forget on Grizzly Bear bassist/producer, Chris Taylor’s Terrible Records label.

Now if you’re looking for an unFORGETtable deal, MizMuze has just what you’re looking for!  For a limited time, you can get the entire Forget album here for just $1!!!

Sounding a bit like Bauhaus and The Smiths, the video is a parody of the 1990’s Calvin Klein porn casting couch commercials…check it out and see if Twin Shadow really has “BIG talent”…

Twin Shadow – Slow

Song of the Day – Tuesday 8/24/2010 Björk August 24, 2010

Björk has released the title song for the new Moomins (Finnish cartoon characters created by Tove Jansson described as “a family of trolls who are white and roundish, with large snouts that make them resemble hippopotamuses”) movie “Moomins and the Comet Chase.”

The song is available today on iTunes; all the funds generated by the track will be donated to UNICEF Pakistan childrens’ charities…hmmm, a little creepy/apocalyptic for a kid-flick but a good cause, so BUY IT…and who better than Björk to help make creepy, cool?!

Song of the Day – Monday 8/23/2010 Sufjan Stevens August 23, 2010

Indie folk/pop’s Sufjan Stevens (pronounced ‘SOOF-yahn”) released an eight-song, 60-minute EP [yeah, that’s what I said: eight songs, sixty (six-zero) minutes!] for digital download. All Delighted People is available today on iTunes and Amazon, but you can grab it here for $5!

Sufjan’s website describes the EP as “built around two different versions of Sufjan’s long-form epic ballad “All Delighted People,” a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon’s “Sounds of Silence.” Sounds delightful, yes! The song was originally workshopped (oh we hate making workshop a verb, but time is money!) on Sufjan’s previous tour in the fall of 2009. Other songs on the EP include the 17-minute guitar jam-for-single-mothers “Djohariah,” and the gothic piano ballad “The Owl and the Tanager,” a live-show mainstay (and Debbie Downer if you ask us; what’s it doing on a “Delighted” EP?).”

Sufjan will perform at The Paramount Theatre in Oakland on 10/26/2010…

Sujan Stevens – Enchanting Ghost

It’s not duck season or wabbit season in the Bay Area…it’s Deer Season!   See Deerhunter, along with Real Estate when they perform two nights in San Francisco:  10/29 at the Great American Music Hall, and on 10/30 at Slim’s.
