Song of the Day – Friday 7/30/2010 Geneva Jacuzzi July 30, 2010

MizMuze hasn’t made up her mind as to whether or not Geneva Jacuzzi’s single, “Clothes on the Bed” is genius or junk.

Miz Jacuzzi (aka Geneva Garvin) has, according to her website, “fronted a number of mysterious and fleeting performances under hilarious and perfunctory aliases (Pregnant, Hot Pajamas, Sex Carpet) before building her permanent home in Bubonic Plague.  Her music is quasi-occult mystery, flippant wit and quizzical torch, enshrined in the unsuspecting and jazzy veneer of sundry electronic music styles that range from darkwave goth-lounge to tropicalia.”

Geneva’s first LP, Lamaze dropped on 2/23/2010 and fellow freak folker, Ariel Pink (whom she will be touring with in Europe starting in October) has contributed to the album.

You may hate this one, but hey, it’s Friday, and you have the next two days off…so keep listening…you may just start to love it…or not…

Song of the Day – Wednesday 7/28/2010 The Roots July 28, 2010

Hip hop legends, The Roots released their ninth studio album, How I Got Over on 6/22/2010.  The single, “The Fire” features John Legend on the hook and the video was directed by Rik Cordero who explains the premise for the video:

“It chronicles a post-apocalyptic death march set in 1945 during the final stages of World War II in Europe.  After a cataclysmic event renders the war futile, a paramilitary splinter group, led by a Kurtz-like figure known as The Commodore, forces the transfer of young men who will be used as labor…and food.  The last survivor of the march receives a mysterious White Box which holds the key to survival.”

Sweden’s Eric Berglund of The Tough Alliance has a mysterious new project, ceo.  His debut album, White Magic was released last month…

The video for “Come With Me” includes stuffed animals, champagne, masks, and knives.  Just your typical, everyday, Swedish house-party.  Via the band’s website is a description of what ceo is:

“ceo is the photosynthesis and an aria, it is silence and virginity lost in a gang bang.
ceo is a bird in space and ceo is the space in a bird.
ceo is saliva, patron, november rain and panic. it is a relief, a citrine and it is broken dreams.
ceo is the harlot, the prince the snake and the shaman. in a spyker c8 laviolette. and on a mirage.
ceo is raspberries and chlamydia, it is the shadow and it is a clapping game.”

MizMuze has been down for five-piece indie rockers, The Walkmen since they released their debut album, Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone all the way back in 2002…the other “The” band from New York—The Strokes, had also just hit the scene at that time —that’s when I started getting excited about music again…it seemed that the indie sound was making a comeback in the post-millenium…

The Walkmen are scheduled to release their sixth studio album, Lisbon on 9/14/2010.  You can see The Walkmen and Japandroids when they rock out at The Fillmore the same day the album comes out.
