Forest Family Records has another winner on their hands.  The first artist that FFR signed was Cults (remember “Go Outside” from all the way back to April 1st?!)  Now they’re bringing us Gauntlet Hair; a chillwavey duo from Lafayette, Colorado.

Here’s how the band describes themselves…”GAUNTLET HAIR is: Andy R. and Craig Nice. We have been making music together since we were fifteen years old. BFF. The writing of our full album is currently underway. We will have it for you shortly.” -HAIR

Song of the Day – Wednesday 5/26/2010 Bettye LaVette May 26, 2010

Detroit soul sista, Bettye LaVette released her first record nearly 50 years ago, but has only recently received widespread acclaim since releasing her 2005 record, I’ve Got My Own Hell to Raise.

In 2008, when Miz LaVette performed The Who‘s “Love Reign o’er Me” at the Kennedy Center where Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey were receiving Kennedy Center Honors, Pete was so moved that he told Miz LaVette, “you made me weep.”  Thus the idea of a full-length album covering British rock songs was born.

Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook was released yesterday…Miz LaVette covers The Who, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Elton John and many more.  You can see The Great Lady of Soul herself when she performs one night at the Great American Music Hall on 7/14/2010.

Song of the Day – Tuesday 5/25/2010 Lali Puna May 25, 2010

German indietronica four-piece, Lali Puna have just released their fourth studio album, Our Inventions last month.  Vocalist, Valerie Trebeljahr describes the making of their new LP:  “Our Inventions is less pushy than Faking the Books…We wanted to leave the guitars behind.  In fact, I would have loved to go into the dance direction, so some of the songs on Our Invention were four-on-the-floor.  But we didn’t succeed.  So we decided to throw away the dancefloor bassdrums and the songs turned out to be a lot more quiet.”

Dance songs aside, MizMuze thinks you’ll enjoy the lead track off their new album (their first in 6 years)…remember them…

Song of the Day – Monday 5/24/2010 The National May 24, 2010

Brooklyn indie rockers by way of Ohio, The National, are a five-piece band comprised of lead vocalist, Matt (The Baritone) Berninger, and two pairs of brother, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, and Bryan and Scott Devendorf.

With dark, brooding and sometimes apocalyptic images, the band draws comparisons to Wilco, Arcade Fire, Echo & The Bunnymen, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits.  Their fifth studio album, High Violet was released on 5/10/2010 to much critical acclaim.   The band is playing two shows this week at the Fox Theater in Oakland, on 5/26 and 5/27.

Can Pittsburgh rock band 1,2,3 live up to the hype of being compared to T. Rex, Big Star, and John Lennon (and even a little ELO) when all they’ve released is a 7″ single on Ohh La La Records?

The band’s 70’s sound comes from lead vocalist Nic Snyder, who was raised on a steady diet of early Rod Stewart, Neil Young, and Burt Bacharach.  His father, Gil Snyder, was the keyboardist for the Pittsburgh band, Iron City Houserockers who introduced his son to punk and early glam rock.  Drummer, Josh Sickels states, “Nic listens to literally EVERYTHING, and I think you can hear that in his songs.”  Well, MizMuze can’t stop listening to this retro rock tune, and can’t wait to here more…

According to the band’s MySpace page, 1,2,3 will play 1,2,3,4 shows—three in the UK and one in LA on 6/30/2010.  More gigs are sure to follow…
