Song of the Day – Friday 4/23/2010 Goldfrapp April 23, 2010

Put on your lip gloss, feather your hair, and grab your leg-warmers…It’s rollerdisco time!

Alison Goldfapp and Will Gregory of Goldfrapp are bringin’ the dance hits 80’s style.  On the English duo’s latest album, Head First, which was released last month, the band summons the late 70’s early 80’s disco era with their Blondie, Abba, and ELO tunes.  Ahhh…it’s enough to make you wanna head over to Aloha Roller Palace to rex and Shoot-the-duck…

Catch Goldfrapp dance and sing the night away under the mirrorball on 6/26/2010 at the Fox Theater in Oakland.

Happy Earth Day Everyone!

No excuses, but MizMuze is late with the SOTD today as she was being “Green Conscious” and decided to plant some trees, walk to work, changed all the light bulbs to CFL’s, visited the local farmer’s market, reduced, recycled, and reused…oh yeah, and I’m also tired from last night’s Camera Obscura and Best Coast show.

Lucky Soul is a British six-piece pop band from South East London who’s second album, A Coming of Age was released on 4/15/2010 and has been described as a “mixture of 60’s sounds with hints of ABBA, Dolly Parton, The Smiths and Blondie.”

Song of the Day – Wednesday 4/21/2010 Guru

After learning of Guru’s passing on 4/19/2010, I’ve been playing my Jazzmatazz CD’s all night…I had forgotten how talented the G-U-R-U was.  Truly an under-appreciated, iconic, and legendary rapper.

Off of the Jazzmatazz, Vol. 3: Streetsoul album, Guru brings the rap and Angie Stone brings the soul…

Hip-Hop artist Guru of Gang Starr is dead at 43 April 20, 2010

Rapper, Guru, passed away yesterday at the age of 43 after a long battle with cancer.

Keith “Guru” Elam was the MC for the East Coast hip-hop duo Gang Starr.  Gang Starr released six albums between 1989-2003.  In 1993 as a solo artist, Guru released the first volume of his groudbreaking Jazzmatazz series (my favorites are Vol 1, Vol 3, and Vol 4) in which he combined live jazz with hip-hop and rapping.

Guru’s manager, Solar, released the following statement:

“The world has lost one of the best MCs and Hip-Hop icons of all-time — my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru.  Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle!  This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen.  The cancer took him.  Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius.”

Song of the Day – Tuesday 4/20/2010 DOM

MizMuze’s ears are rangin’ from all the sangin’ at last night’s Vampire Weekend show.  Such a great show…but much too tired to write.  Must. Get. Sleep.

DOM or the band formerly known as FUR, are a three-piece indie pop/synth pop group from Worcester, Massachusetts.  The band says that they sound like “shit” on their MySpace page, but I think they’re being much too harsh.  In fact, I’d beg to differ. You can see for yourself if they’re really the self-described shiz when their debut EP, Sun Bronzed Greek Gods is released on 5/1/2010.
