New North American tour dates announced for Beach House! Baltimore, Maryland’s dream pop duo will be playing at Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco on 4/14/2010.
MizMuze was out waaaaay past her bed time last night at the Noisepop Zee Avi show at the Rickshaw Stop (more on that later). So…no new band for today’s SOTD. Can’t go wrong with YYY’s, and this song needs no explanation—just watch and listen…

After two bottles of wine there may be a little distortion in the retelling of the history of Frederick Douglass, but Jen Kirkman gives it a go with the help of Don Cheadle and Will Ferrell…see the whole 5-minute video on HBO’s comedy series Funny or Die…
Funny Or Die Presents: Drunk History (HBO) Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln
Do you miss the days when you were all about black—clothes, eyeliner, nail polish, lipstick, attitude? Your jet-black hair hanging in front of your face as you stood in the corner listening to New Order and Joy Division and thinking, “only Ian Curtis really understands me.” Well now that you’re all growns up, relive your painful youth with Philly’s (now based in New York) Cold Cave; only now you realize love won’t tear you apart, but love comes close…and just when you think you’ve got Cold Cave pegged as New Order Redux, listen to “Life Magazine” for a disco dance-ready happy-go-lucky “now you’re part of the in-crowd” jam…

Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, Bored to Death, Funny or Die) does a little role reversal in his interview with John Wray (author of the critically acclaimed ‘Lowboy’) who is promoting his latest novel now in paperback. As the two pretend to be each other, what transpires is pure Zach-style comedy (even his typing is hilarious)…

Cinequest Film Festival 20 Opening Night 2/23/2010 in San Jose February 22, 2010
Are You a Maverick?
You betcha. No. Not the kind of Maverick that shoots wolves from helicopters, winks at opponents, and writes notes on their hands. I’m talking about the kind of Maverick that shoots enemy MiG’s while flying upside down, flips the bird, and still looks hot while playing beach volleyball. Now you’re talking to me Goose.
Well if you fall into the second category then you are going to want to check out this year’s Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Cinequest has been empowering the Maverick to astound, electrify, and inspire the world of cinema. The Cinequest Film Festival presents a dynamic 12-day event of 200 international films with over 600+ film artists, technologists, and professionals from 44 countries.
Opening night begins tomorrow 2/23/2010 with the screening of “The Good Heart” starring Brian Cox (Match Point, Troy, The Bourne Identity) and Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, Gigantic). This year Deepak Chopra and Benjamin Bratt will be receiving Maverick awards and honors. The festival closes on 3/6/2010 with the screening of “Mother,” a South Korean film about a mother (of course) devoted to her mentally challenged adult son.
