MizMuze Takes a Vacay January 5, 2011

I should have made this announcement earlier as I’ve had several inquiries regarding the lack of Song of the Day posts this week.

Well MizMuzers, the simple answer is this: MizMuze needs a holiday.  Part of the more complex answer is that I can no longer access my blog during the day—Big Brother/Thought Police kinda stuff (in fact, I had to find a secret location just to publish this post…shhh, they’re watching you).

But the good news is that MizMuze’s first year of blogging was simply amazing!  Just a few stats to illuminate how great 2010 was…with 342 posts, 302 concerts on the 2010 Concert Calendar, and over 300 fresh and talented up-and-coming new bands that were brought to you via the Song of the Day (SOTD), I can’t help but be optimistic that 2011 is going to bigger and better than ever.

Big Brother be damned!!!  MizMuze is bound and determined to make 2011 the year that she *inspired* every man, woman, child, puppy, kitty, bird, reptile, and single-celled organism living on Planet Earth!  Just give MizMuze a couple of weeks to figure out the details of her plan for world domination and I promise, you won’t be sorry…

So for now, put on your favorite record, and I’ll see you on the flip side!

LA’s indie rock duo, No Age consists of Randy Randall (guitar) and Dean Spunt (vocals, drums). The band has so far released three albums, 2007’s Weirdo Rippers (a compilation of early material) 2008’s Nouns and 2010’s Everything In Between.

The band’s third full-length album, Everything in Between dropped on 9/28/2010.

Left Coast Live 2010 – The Redux June 21-June26, 2010

Okay music lovers, mark your calendars for next week as impresario, Chris Esparza and his team at Giant Creative Services are bringing you six days of music, when the second annual Left Coast Live music festival returns to San Jose on June 21-June 26, 2010!

6 days, 20 Stages and 100 bands!!!

Taken from the website: Left Coast Live is a week-long music experience that showcases more than 100 local, regional and national live acts in 20 downtown San Jose venues centered in the SoFA district.  The event starts with the “Sound of Things to Come” music discussion series that includes film screenings, preview concerts and more, and then culminates in a two-day live music festival with interactive events for all ages.

Monday through Thursday events for Left Coast Live are free and will be open to the public.  Admission for the Friday and Saturday evening concerts are $15 for an advanced purchase ticket and $20 at the door each night, but the best deal is the 2-day festival pass for $25.  Purchase your tickets here.

Song of the Day – Friday 4/2/2010 The Heavy April 2, 2010

“Hi, welcome to The Gap!”  That’s how it all started for guitarist Dan Taylor and lead singer Kelvin Swaby of The Heavy, who were both working at The Gap in Noid, England when they met and started the band.

Now a quartet, the British soul/funk/R&B indie rockers know how to bring the house down.  In fact, when they performed on the Late Show With David Letterman at the beginning of this year, Letterman was so impressed that he asked the band to play an encore—that was the first time in Late Show history that Letterman had ever asked a band to perform an encore on his show…not bad for a coupla dudes who bonded over neo-soul, Motown, cable knit sweaters and khakis—just cinch it!

Bjork And Michel Gondry Working on New IMAX 3-D Film March 16, 2010

Award-winning screenwriter and director, Michel Gondry announced at the SXSW Film Festival that he and Bjork were collaborating on a new project. 

Gondry is known for his innovative videos (of which, he has worked with the Icelandic Pixie 7 times) and his cutting-edge movies such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind. 

In his interview with The Playlist, Gondry revealed that “We have a very ambitious project, a sort of scientific musical.  [It's a movie], but maybe more for museums. Like a 40 minute IMAX project in 3D.”

Are You a Maverick?

You betcha.  No.  Not the kind of Maverick that shoots wolves from helicopters, winks at opponents, and writes notes on their hands.   I’m talking about the kind of Maverick that shoots enemy MiG’s while flying upside down, flips the bird, and still looks hot while playing beach volleyball.  Now you’re talking to me Goose. 

Well if you fall into the second category then you are going to want to check out this year’s Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose.  Celebrating its 20^th anniversary, Cinequest has been empowering the Maverick to astound, electrify, and inspire the world of cinema.  The Cinequest Film Festival presents a dynamic 12-day event of 200 international films with over 600+ film artists, technologists, and professionals from 44 countries.

Opening night begins tomorrow 2/23/2010 with the screening of “The Good Heart” starring Brian Cox (Match Point, Troy, The Bourne Identity) and Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, Gigantic).  This year Deepak Chopra and Benjamin Bratt will be receiving Maverick awards and honors.  The festival closes on 3/6/2010 with the screening of “Mother,” a South Korean film about a mother (of course) devoted to her mentally challenged adult son.

Rock and Roll at The Sundance Film Festival Twenty-Ten January 22, 2010

The Sundance Film Festival started yesterday in Park City Utah and runs through January 31, 2010.  One of the films premiering at the festival and catching a lot of buzz is the rock biopic “The Runaways.”  You remember The Runaways–1970′s all-girl teenage rock band, known as “jailbait rock” because Joan Jett, Sandy West, Lita Ford, and Cherie Currie were underage when they started the band.

Starring Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”) as Joan Jett, and Dakota Fanning (“I Am Sam”) as Cherie Currie, the film will have its world premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival on January 24th, and will open in wide release on March 19, 2010.
