Avey Tare aka David Portner, is one of the founding members of Animal Collective. His debut solo album, Down There was released today. The album has been described as “a murky world of sound, an alien death world of soul grooves that is both honest and otherworldly. Wait for sundown and turn it up loud. Take a ride on this haunted boat and let yourself be guided through deep sloshy rhythms, waterlogged bass, and moonlit breaks in the canopy that reveal a crisp crystalline pop buzz.”

Tricky’s label, Domino Records describes the single “Murder Weapon” as “a reworking of the classic dancehall hit from Jamaican-born Echo Minott, originally released in the early ’90s. Tricky fell in love with the track and was determined to hear how it would sound with a female vocalist (in a similar fashion to his reworking of “Black Steel” with Martina Topley-Bird). Tricky here enrolls Irish-Italian Franky Riley, who has toured as Tricky’s vocalist for two years and makes her recording debut on his new album Mixed Race.”
